Car intake system

These types of systems allow your car to breathe easier. It does not mean that the car has lungs. But it means that the vehicle produces more horse power and greater gas mileage. They are present in different styles in the market. Some of these systems are

oOpen element car air intake system
oSealed Car air in take system
oRam car in take system

Air basically comes in the air filter. Then it passes through the air filter and goes straight in to the carburetor. Here the fuel is mixed with the air. Then the mixture, after some time, is drawn in to the cylinders. The most advanced and the most important part of the system is air temperature sensor in the air in take system. The main purpose of this sensor is to measure the air temperature. This is done by opening and closing a flap. By opening and closing a flap cold air is brought in. This is done to stop the carburetor icing. This would cause the car to easily die out. It is also used to facilitate vaporization of the fuel in to the stream. But there is a draw back in this system, there is no way to measure the incoming air for the fuel mixture. Some manufactures recommend that the carburetor should be adjusted on a dynamometer with the engine under load.

Air is drawn in a long plastic tube, which goes straight in to the air filter housing. The tube is long so that the air moves steadily. It then passes through the air filter and the through the air flow meter.

Two types of AFM's are manufactured for this purpose. One is a vane type and the other is a hot wire type. The vane type's flap is pushed by the air which is coming in. Potentiometer is then used to send readings according to the Power Train Control module.

Hot wire AFM uses wire which is strung in the air stream. The voltage signal, which is produced, goes to the EFI computer which then adjusts the fuel mixture. Then the mixture goes straight in to the throttle chamber.

Throttle Chamber is used to control the air flow inside the engine of the vehicle. There is TPS which is fixed on the throttle plate. This TPS is used to send signal to the main EFI computer.

Another component which is used in this system is the Cold Start Valve. It is electrically heated. It is basically a valve which expands when heated. But when it is cold, it allows a large quantity of air to pass through it. So when the valve is heated, it expands and thus reduces the quantity of air that passes through it. Types of Car intakes

OPEN ELEMENT CAR INTAKE:

Sealed Car Intake System:
This system relies on the stock filter and the tube. Some sealed car in take systems are manufactured by creating walls between different parts. And the system is sealed as a whole.

Ram Car intake system:
This system use longer tubes. Because of these longer tubes more torque is produced and thus more horse power is produced by the engine.
